Frequently Asked Questions

What steps do I take when the death occurs?

After the proper authorities have been contacted to pronounce the death, the funeral home can then be contacted.  We are dedicated to those we serve, so we are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  Please let our staff know that a death has occurred and that you would like us to assist you with making the proper arrangements.  We will then set-up a conference to review the details of the funeral as well as to collect vital statistic information for the death certificate.

What will I need to bring in to the arrangement conference?

These listed items will help prepare, file, and secure the New Mexico Death Certificate as well as assist with the details of the funeral service:

- Full Name of the deceased
- Clothing (Underwear as well as Outerwear)
- Social Security Number
- Father’s Full Name
- Mother’s Full Maiden Name
- Date of Birth
- List of Survivors
- List of Pallbearers
- Veterans Discharge Paper(DD214)
- Items used to personalize the service such as photos, music, and mementos
- Place of final disposition

Why should I pre-plan my funeral or burial?

We offer pre-need funeral insurance to assist you with the details and decisions a funeral entails.  This in turn releases the worry from your family members and provides financial protection.

As a Veteran what am I entitled to receive?

As a Veteran you can be eligible to receive:

- Burial Benefits
- Headstone or Marker
- Presidential Memorial Certificate
- Military Funeral Honors
- Burial Flag
- Burial allowance

Here at Gabaldon Mortuary we are dedicated to those who have served their country and are willing to help you determine eligibility and help file all the necessary paperwork to receive these benefits.  If you would like more information please visit the following website, www.cem.va.gov

How do I apply for Social Security benefits?

You may visit their website at www.socialsecurity.gov or call their toll-free number at 1-800-772-1213.  The following TTY number is available if you are deaf or hard of hearing: 1-800-325-0778.
