Alvarito (Al) Montaño age 78, a resident of Albuquerque, NM left peacefully to join his mother, Nicolasita, in Heaven on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, in the presence of his loving wife and children. He was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico to Juan Montaño and Nicolasita Sedillo on December 30, 1945.

Al is survived by his wife of thirty-two years, Elizabeth Montaño; children, Pauline Becerra and husband, Steve, Albert J. Montaño, Leslie Pollaro and husband, Greg, Annette Montaño, Brandi Lucero, Bridget Montaño, Jerald Martinez and wife, Judy, eighteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren for which he had a special relationship with each of them. He is survived by his loving siblings of six brothers and three sisters: Ubaldo Montaño and wife, Margaret, Arturo Montaño, Carmen Montes and husband David, Helen Cordova and husband Richard, Gilbert Montaño and wife Dorothy, Eloy Montaño and wife Patsy, George Zamora and wife Marlene, Ricky Montaño, Yolanda Montaño and his beloved uncle, Albert Sedillo and wife Gladys. Al had many special cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Danielle Marquez, and parents, Juan and Nicolasita Montaño.

Al served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam War by serving two tours of duty and awarded the Purple Heart and in process

the Silver Star for Valor. Al Montaño was the proud founder and owner of Sta-Rite Lath and Plaster, Inc. for over 40 years. Anyone and everyone in and around the construction industry knew that Al Montaño and Sta-Rite were synonymous. His reputation as the owner of the premier stucco company in NM for high-end housing was indisputable. Al was a master tradesman and friend to numerous contractors, business owners and developers.

Al was a strong man with a high bar of expectations of his workers and those who surrounded him. He was a voracious reader and consumed books like oxygen. Above all, he loved his family dearly.

Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church 4020 Lomas Blvd on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 10:00a.m. with a Mass of the Resurrection to be celebrated at 10:30a.m. Interment will follow the services at the Santa Fe National Cemetery 501 N. Guadalupe St. in Santa Fe, New Mexico with military honors at 1:00 p.m. Honorary Bearers will be, Nicholas Lucero, Andrew Montaño, Clay Montaño, Donovan Phillips, Xavier Phillips, Clayton Tapia, and Q.

A reception and celebration of Mr. Montaño’s family and his life will follow the interment at Santa Ana Casino at 3pm.
