Evaristo "Evy" Marquez

Evaristo Liborio "Evy" Marquez, age 88, Evy was born in Milagro, New Mexico on November 21,1935 to Ramon and Erinea Marquez. Ramon passed away when Evy was four years old. He grew up in Santa Rosa with his maternal grandfather, mother, and two sisters.
Evy joined the Albuquerque Fire Department on February 13, 1957. He loved his job and made many friends in the department. Evy took part in the organization and establishment of the Firefighters Union and is on the original Charter for IAFF Local 1455. He served Albuquerque for nearly 30 years, retiring on December 30, 1986. His sons, nephews, and grandson followed in his footsteps making firefighting a family legacy. He was very proud of those accomplishments.
Evy met Julia, the love of his life, cruising Central, and they were married on September 19, 1959.
Evy enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and boating. He made lots of wonderful memories traveling with his family throughout New Mexico and beyond. Evy enjoyed Spanish music and was passionate about politics. He loved going to the casino, especially Sandia, and loved gambling at the horse races.
Evy had a great sense of humor and if he teased with you then you knew he loved you. He loved to laugh, tell stories, and have a good time. Oh to hear those stories one more time! Evy will be missed!
Evy passed away on January 17, 2024. Mr. Marquez is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Julia Marquez; children, Diane Baca and husband, Orlando, Steve Marquez and wife, Thelma, Victor Marquez and wife, Rosita; grandchildren, Luke, Aitana, Tina and Gabriel; sister, Emma Gonzales; many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A Rosary for Evy will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at 10:00am with a Mass to follow at 11:00am all to be held at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church located at 811 Guaymas Pl NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108 and a Burial to follow after services to Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers are Luke Marquez, Gabriel Marquez, David Garcia, Phil Garcia, Richard Sanchez, Al Lucero, and Joe Nelson.
