Jonathon Gary Abeyta, age 36, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on April 21, 2025, Born in Las Vegas, New Mexico, Jonathon was a resident of Albuquerque at the time of his passing. He is survived by his loving parents, Gary Abeyta and Rosalie Leyba; his sister, K. Brandi Abeyta; and his cherished nephew, Justice Anderson.
Jonathon, known affectionately as “Gary” to many, attended New Mexico State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems, with a focus on Database Administration and ERP Systems. While at NMSU, he was a proud member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, participated in intramural sports, and built friendships that lasted a lifetime. He had a gift for connecting with people, and his kindness, humor, and genuine spirit made him unforgettable.
Professionally, Jonathon began his career at Bohannan Huston, Inc., and later joined Nusenda Credit Union as a Systems Administrator. He held certifications as a Continuum Certified IT Expert, a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCPS), and in Administering Office 365 for Small Businesses. Through hard work and passion, he rose to the position of Network Systems Manager. His dedication, intelligence, and commitment to his craft were evident in everything he did. He was always learning, growing, and supporting those around him.
Outside of work, Jonathon was a gifted artist with a remarkable talent for realism. The detail and emotion in his drawings made them feel truly alive. He also loved golf, travel, and all things technology—but most of all, he loved his family, his friends, and his loyal companion Kobe Bean, his beloved dog and best friend. Jonathon had a rare ability to make a friend out of every person he met, and his warmth and generosity touched the lives of all who knew him.
Jonathon Gary Abeyta’s light shone brightly, and although his time with us was far too short, the impact he made was lasting and profound. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Services will be held on May 27, 2025, beginning with a Rosary at 9:30 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, followed by Mass at 10:00 a.m.
A Celebration of Life will take place later that day from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Ladera Golf Course in Albuquerque, NM.
His entombment will follow on May 28, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Mount Calvary Cemetery
