Joseph M. Dimas, age 77, passed away on August 9, 2023. He was born to Manuel and Epimenia Dimas, along with his five siblings. He is survived by his son, Francisco, daughter, Elisa, son-in-law Phil, and two grandsons. He is also survived by his sister Diane Garcia and brother, Steve Dimas, as well as countless nieces and nephews.
Joe, or as he was lovingly referred to by his students, Coach, was a man who loved two things most in this world: tennis and the written word. He had a career as special education teacher, but his true calling was as a tennis coach for kids who otherwise would have never picked up a tennis racquet. Coach had a knack for getting kids interested in tennis and this interest often continued into their adulthood. Coach was also a veracious reader, whether it was Bjorn Borg’s memoir or his daily Albuquerque Journal.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held on September 23, at 11am at Los Duranes Community Center, 2920 Leopoldo Rd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87104. His ashes will be laid to rest by his children. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the United States Tennis Association Foundation. https://www.ustafoundation.com/donate/
