Lucy Boyd Rael

Lucy Boyd Rael (Robinson), age 73, born in Austin, TX, passed away on May 10, 2024, in Albuquerque, NM. She was a beloved mother, wife, and grandmother who fiercely dedicated her life to her family. Lucy's giving soul, determination, openness, devoutness, and adventurous spirit defined her. She had a kind heart, a thirst for knowledge, and a deep love for animals, especially dogs and birds, taking in strays whenever she found them. She taught her sons to be kind, compassionate, determined, and to be good, even when nobody is watching. In turn her son James taught his children, Caleb and Perfecta, those same values. She is someone who is hard to forget by anyone who has met her.

Lucy is survived by her son John L. Root, her son James D. Root and his wife Yolanda Root, her grandson Caleb I. Root, her granddaughter Perfecta I. Root, and her sister Mary Bunker. She was predeceased by her mother Mary Barefield, her father Tom Robinson, and her loving husband Armando Rael.

Lucy had a diverse career, working as a factory worker, healthcare worker, salesperson, scout leader, and waitress. She also volunteered at food pantries and thrift stores to support those in need. Her love for photography, travel, crafts, music, and collecting things brought her joy throughout her life.

Services will be held on June 5th, 2024, at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, located at 5415 Fortuna Rd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87105. The Rosary will begin at 10:30am followed by a word service at 11:00am. Interment of ashes services will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30pm. Gabaldon Mortuary in Albuquerque, NM, is assisting with the arrangements.

Lucy's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were touched by her kindness and compassion.
