Manuelita Herminia Jaramillo

d. June 3, 2024

On Monday, June 3, 2024, Manuelita Herminia Jaramillo went to be with our Lord at the age of 72. Born in Vallecitos, New Mexico, and a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Manuelita was known for many things, including being a strong woman of faith, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a fabulous cook and baker, with tortillas, red chili, and biscochitos being some of the favorites. She was also an APS educator for 31 years, with one of her fun memories being making adobes with kindergartners. A wonderful seamstress, quilter, and master crocheter, she shared her gifts with family and friends. In her spare time, she loved to garden, fish, chop wood, pick piñon, and do puzzles.

A double lung transplant in 2007 allowed her family to enjoy her for 17 more years, including her 6 grandchildren, who were at the center of her heart. This experience drove her and her husband to raise awareness about the benefits of organ transplants as they led the local OTAP and traveled all over the state to give scholarships to high school students for college.

No matter what pain or suffering Manuelita was going through, she always put others first and would love to bring biscochitos and tortillas to anyone that took care of her. She was a strong woman of faith, holding on to and praying the rosary until her last breath.

Manuelita is survived by her husband of fifty-two years, Antonio Jaramillo; children, Estefanita Maestas and husband Mark, Antonio Jaramillo and wife Lanette, Sonia Cummins and husband Timothy; grandchildren, Estevan, Mia, Santiago, Olivia, Carlos, and Kiley; brothers, Tony Gurule, Timmy Gurule, Johnny Roybal, Nerio Gurule; sisters, Priscilla Baldonado, Rose Henderson, Cordy Sisneros, and Dorothy Bernal; several Godchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Navor and Amalia Gurule; brother, Felipe Gurule; and sister, Ninfa Gallegos.

Services for Mrs. Jaramillo will be held at Shrine of the Little Flower St. Therese Catholic Church, 3424 Fourth St. NW. The viewing will be on June 12, 2024, at 8:30 AM, followed by the rosary at 9:00 AM, and then the mass from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. The burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at 11:00 AM, with a reception afterwards at the church gym. Pallbearers will be Santiago Jaramillo, Estevan Maestas, Carlos Cummins, Mark Maestas, Tim Cummins, and Manuel Gurule. Manuelita left a lasting memory with anyone she came into contact with. She will be greatly missed.
