Patricia “Patti” Romero was born on February 23, 1949 in Albuquerque’s Old Town. She passed away peacefully (albeit unexpectedly) in her sleep on October 17, 2023. Patti is survived by her husband, Eleno “E.J.” Romero and her mother, Margie Lewis Zaia. Patti’s second daughter, Angela Romero Jojola, preceded her mother in death in August 2022. Patti leaves behind her eldest daughter, Anita Romero and husband Robert O’Brien; son Lucas Romero, his wife Karen and son Mack; granddaughter Briana Corrales, her partner Trey Marsh and daughter Aaliyah; granddaughter Brittany Corrales, her partner Hakeem Edmon and son Jamir; grandson Diego and partner Angelina; and son-in-law Daniel Jojola.
Patti lived her entire life in Albuquerque and grew up in Old Town. Patti met the love of her life, Eleno, in 1966 on a blind date. Little did she realize that they would soon wed and be married for 55 years. They raised a family together and spent all of their time together. Patti and Eleno loved to travel. They loved to reminisce about previous trips, such as New Orleans and France. They also enjoyed traveling for Eleno’s softball tournaments, and as many of you are aware, Patti enjoyed visiting new casinos en route. Visiting casinos was one of Patti’s favorite activities, from playing the slots to catching up with friends and former coworkers. She and Eleno also enjoyed eating out, especially for breakfasts at the casino.
Patti always loved games, including cross-word puzzles. She also enjoyed scrapbooking and documenting her family’s lives. She was an avid reader when younger and had finally found time to read again. She enjoyed cooking shows and watching the Hallmark Channel with her mother, Margie. She will be remembered for her famous pumpkin bread, always a staple for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Patti lived for her children and family. Her life revolved around her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It will come as no surprise to learn that she was away when she passed, insistent on being present for the birth of Briana’s first child in Texas. Although Patti had numerous health issues, nothing could keep her away from her newest great-grandchild. She loved babies with a passion. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren all agree that she gave the best hugs and kisses.
Patti was a very hands-on parent and grandparent. She and Eleno were always present for every sport her children and grandchildren played, as well as every accomplishment and extra-curricular activity. She was a very proud mom, Grandma and Great Grandma.
Patti enjoyed working; we think it was just to be out and about meeting people. Patti worked at the Albuquerque Sunport, Sandia Casino and briefly at Sandia Labs. She especially loved seeing people she knew and then telling her family who she saw. Patti was very kind and personable and made friends with nearly everyone she met. She always remembered faces and names. She was always available, for a chat, a hug, or just a warm hello.
Patti lived a full life filled with lots of love. She will be sorely missed. It gives us comfort knowing that she is again with her sisters, Debbie and Brigitte, and daughter Angela.
