Pete Otero

Pete Otero, 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Albuquerque, NM, on August 2nd 2026. Pete was born in San Acacia, NM.

Pete was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and soldier whose life was defined by honor, service, and unwavering love for his family. He proudly served his country with distinction, completed 2 years of active duty in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War from December 1965 to November 1966. He then served in the Army Reserves from May 1967 to May 1973, followed by 30 years in the Army National Guard. While serving in the Army National Guard, he was part of the 111th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, which then transitioned into the 111th Sustainment Brigade. He retired honorably as a Sergeant First Class (E-7) from the New Mexico Army National Guard. His military service reflected his commitment to duty, integrity, and selfless service - values he carried throughout every aspect of his life.

Beyond his military career, Pete was known for his dedication to his family, faith, and sports. Pete married his beautiful wife, Gerri Otero (his "Hunny bunny"), and they spent their time hosting parties and dancing. He loved watching his Yankees play baseball and his 49ers take the field. He was strong in his faith as a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Joseph on the Rio Grande. Every year during Lent season, Pete and his family would visit Santuario de Chimayo. Pete was a member of the Los Volcanes Senior Center, where he enjoyed lunch and shared stories with his friends. He enjoyed playing dominoes with his daughter and granddaughters.

Pete would often visit his hometown in San Acacia, NM, where he would spend time with his siblings, sons, daughter, nieces, nephews, and other family friends. There, he and his family would have their matanzas.

He is survived by his daughter Patricia Lucero and son-in-law Abel; granddaughters Miranda Lucero and fiancé Liska Maddox, Christi Lucero and Jesus Bustillos; nieces and nephews, who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.

He was preceded in death by parents Alisandro & Romania Otero (Padilla); Wife Gerri Otero (Martinez); Sons- Freddie Otero and Randy Otero; Sisters- Lola Otero, Macedonia

"Maisie" Lesperance, Inez Otero-Napoleon, Trini Otero, and Baby Ernestina; Brothers- Alex Otero, Jr., and Baby Freddie.

He is now resting in peace with his wife and sons in "Un Rinconcito En El Cielo".

Order of Service *

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at 7:30 a.m. at St. Josephs on the Rio Grande Catholic Church 5901 Saint Josephs Dr. NW with a Rosary to be recited at 8:15 a.m. a Eulogy at 8:45 a.m. with Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. A Funeral Procession to Santa Fe at 11:00 a.m. an Interment will follow with military honors at 12:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery 501 N. Guadalupe St. in Santa Fe, New Mexico where he will be laid to rest with his wife, Gerri.

 A Reception will follow services to the Post 13 of Albuquerque, located at 1201 Legion RD NE, Albuquerque, NM from 2:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.

Military Funeral Service *

We know this calls for a long day and a long drive. If you are unable to join us in Santa Fe, please feel free to rest and meet us later for a reception at Post 13 of Albuquerque.

For those who do join, proceed past main gate. There will be 2 lanes on the right with stop sign marked "Funeral procession stop here". Allow room up front for hearse and immediate family. Procession from this point will move at 12:30PM

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.

May their soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
