Sophie Tracy

With great sadness we mourn the loss of our mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was one of a kind who will bless our memories forever. Sophie Tracy, age 86, born May 18, 1937 in Watrous, New Mexico and a resident of Bosque Farms passed away peacefully on May 12, 2024. Sophie was wrapped in love as she left us to join her parents Nickie and Frank Gentry; her father Telesfor Lucero; siblings Telesfor (Kesho) Lucero and Susan Segura and her maternal grandparents, Sotero and Susana Martinez. Sophie moved to Tucumcari, New Mexico when she was 12 and graduated from high school there. She married Albert Gallegos and her two children Michael and Alberta were born there. She became a working mom before it became the norm. As a fiercely independent woman, her career was always important to her. She worked hard to assure that her children, the loves of her life, always felt completely loved and cared for. She was ferociously protective of them, to her they were perfect. She moved to Albuquerque in 1963 and worked in Admissions at Presbyterian Hospital. In 1965 she admitted the first medicare patient in the state of New Mexico. She worked in the medical field until her retirement in 2017. Sophie is survived by her children, Michael Gallegos, Alberta Sandoval (Bob Sanchez); siblings, Sharon Gentry Likovic, Frank Gentry (Claire), grandchildren, Laura Lee Stoker (Joe), Apryl Begay (Notah), Susanna Galante, Anthony Sandoval, Mikayla Gallegos (Montez Branch), Megan Gallegos (James Gutierrez), Miranda Gallegos; great- grandchildren, Andrew Stoker (Jennifer), Angel Willis (Zane), Antonella, Santiago and Paloma Begay, Sofia and Luciana Galante, and Viola Sandoval; great-great grandchildren, Easton Stoker and Evelyn Jo Stoker; many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Visitation will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church 1818 Coal Ave. SE on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated also at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow the services at Gate of Heaven Cemetery 7999 Wyoming Blvd NE. Pallbearers will be, Gene Segura, Steven Likovic, Amber Lee Gear, Ted Lucero, Anthony Sandoval, and Michael Wagner.
