Rose Perea, age 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on January 17, 2026. She was born to Melitón and Fidolina Martinez (Nieto) in Martinez, New Mexico. Rose attended school through the eighth grade and began working as a housekeeper when the family relocated to Albuquerque. She married Robert Perea in 1952 and had six children.
Rose was an extremely hard worker and dedicated employee. She was an assembly worker at GTE Lenkurt and a member of the kitchen staff at Central United Methodist Church. Rose earned her GED in 1988 at age 56. She retired from Albuquerque Public Schools in 1998 where she served as a member of the kitchen staff. Following her first retirement, Rose began working at Presbyterian Hospital as a Patient Services Representative where she enjoyed greeting patients and their families. She retired again at age eighty-four and made numerous friends throughout her work career. She was always active in her community. Rose was a member of the American Legion, Women of the Moose, Communication Workers of America, and Holy Family Catholic Church.
Rose was a beloved mother, nana, sister, aunt and cousin. She is survived by her sisters, Mary Alice Martinez, and Lydia Powers; children, Patricia Chandler (Roy), Jeannette Perea (Jerry), Marie Perea (John Navarro), Joanne Grijalva (Tony), Susan Harmon (Daniel), and Lawrence Perea (Charlene); many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Melitón and Fidolina Martinez; former husband, Robert Perea; two brothers; seven sisters; grandson, Jacob Perea.
Visitation will be held in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW on Monday, February 9, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church 562 Atrisco Dr. SW, with burial to follow the Mass in Martinez, New Mexico.
Pallbearers will be Dominic Larson, Allan Armenta, Roland Gomez, Marty Lopez, Joe Marquez, and David Martinez.
