Theresa Madalena Tapia

d. May 12, 2025

Theresa Madalena Tapia. It is with profound sadness and overflowing love that we announce the passing of our cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Theresa M. Tapia, who left this world on May 12, 2025—just one day after Mother's Day—at the age of 77. Theresa was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Eugenio and Melinda Chavez. In 1967, she met the love of her life, Larry D. Tapia, and they were married in 1969. Together, they built a beautiful life and a loving home, blessed with three children: Theresamarie Pocci (Larry M.), Larry D. Tapia II, and Johanna Jiron (Feliciano). Theresa’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted and selfless wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, her love for them knowing no bounds. She adored her grandchildren—Maximus Jiron, McKenzie Jiron-Chan (Tristen), Nieve Jiron, and Gunnar Jiron—and was overjoyed to welcome great-grandchildren Ashton and Oakley Chan into her life. Her love for her family was limitless, her heart always full, and her presence a constant source of comfort and strength. Anyone who knew Theresa knew that her soul was kind, her faith was strong, and her love for Larry and their family was the centerpiece of her life. Her unwavering devotion will remain an everlasting gift to all who had the blessing of knowing her. Theresa was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry D. Tapia; parents, Eugenio and Melinda Chavez; her in-laws, Willie and Atanacia Tapia; her sister Tillie Garcia and husband Carmen; and her brother Carlos Gene Chavez. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; her loving sisters Frances Cruz (Eddie) and Angela Sanchez; her sister-in-law June Chavez; her brother-in-law Roger Tapia (Marianne); and many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends whose lives she touched deeply. Visitation will be held in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW, on Monday, May 19, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Final visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna Rd. NW at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of the Resurrection to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place immediately following the Mass at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd NE. Pallbearers will be Maximus Jiron, Gunnar Jiron, Tristen Chan, Carlos Cruz, Mark Anthony Sanchez, Francisco Chavez, and John Babbington. Honorary Pallbearers will be, Ashton Chan, Benjamin Cruz, Michael Ross Sanchez, Antonio Tapia, Carlos Chavez, and Christopher Lujan. Theresa will be deeply missed, forever loved, and remembered always.
