Leopoldo “Leo” Velarde, age 88, born in Salem, New Mexico and a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on April 17, 2022. Mr. Velarde is survived by his son Chuck Velarde and wife, Louise, Sisters, Sylvia Pokes and husband, Allen, and Clorinda Ricci; brothers, Fred Velarde and wife, Sandy, Harry Velarde, and Jerry Velarde; three grandchildren, Charles, Jessica, and Ryan; two great-grandchildren, Ninel and Mariano; sister in-law, Beatrice Trujillo; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Juan Jesus and Amalia Velarde; his wife, Rita; son, Anthony (Tony); daughter Verajean, and great-grandson, Enrique; along with his furry companion Mocha. Mr. Velarde proudly served his country in the United States Navy. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 25, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel 1000 Old Coors dr. SW with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Patricia Muniz-Roberts. Funeral Service will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. also in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel officiated by Deacon Mike Wesley. Burial, with Naval Military honors will follow the service at San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Charles Velarde, Bobby Armijo, Mariano Leija, Ryan Gutierrez, Anthony Gutierrez, Carlos Romero. Honorary Pallbearer will be Ninel Leija. Ryan Alpeche, Jessica Leija, Santiago Armijo. The family would like to give special thanks to all that cared for and attended to Mr. Velarde associated with Hospice of New Mexico, they are very grateful.
